The Proliferation Of Crises Around The World - 1529 Words

The proliferation of crises around the world has led to a prominent increase in the fascination, as well as interest, in the concept of â€Å"social entrepreneurship†. In today’s society, this concept has inspired numerous individuals to pursue a career being social entrepreneur as it promises to solve some of the world’s toughest problems while earning money and gaining social status. That being said, these are often the individuals/agencies that are exempted from public examination as they are seen doing â€Å"valuable work†. With that in mind, Daniela Papi- Thornton (2016) in her article, â€Å"Tackling Heropreneruship†, critiques this industry by claiming that we are emerging into an area of heropreneurship in which being an entrepreneur has become a†¦show more content†¦Consequently, this has led to an era of heropreneurship in which many individuals inspire to become entrepreneurs who claim that they can solve these problems. Due to i ts heroic and feel good appeal, many individuals work towards creating an â€Å"attractive† social enterprise or demand jobs with a â€Å"social purpose†. Nonetheless, while heropreneurship can be seen as an inspiring and exciting era, there is room for further improvement. First, due to heropreneurship, the line between quick solutions and progress has been blurred. While tackling these problems is considered a noble deed and personally valuable, many individuals are not working towards solving the root of the problems that occur in the affected countries. Rupert Scofield (2011) in his text, â€Å"The Social Entrepreneurs Handbook† explains â€Å"but to really help them, you have to get to know them, walk in their shoes. You would be surprised at the number of organizations that espouse this or that noble cause in which the personnel seem only dimly acquainted with the facts on the ground† (5). It is apparent that many individuals often prioritize short term solutions and disguise it as a long term because they do not fully understand all aspects of the problem. It is important to realize that implementing successful and sustainable solutions involves hard work. Investigating the root cause of the problem, as well as researching existing solutions and their strengths and weaknesses is critical when attempting to
